Hey Lauren! Tell us a little about yourself...
I live in Clevedon and have been in the area now for 3 years. I am Ranger and Volunteer Co-ordinator for Mendip Hills AONB. In my spare time I play the violin, read go hiking all over the South/ South West. Cycle, wild swim and I used to do Tae kwon do and got my black belt two years ago but now enjoy boxing and drill training.
Why Did you join Bristol Girl Hikers?
To make friends and find people to share my hobbies with locally
Did you have any walking / hiking experience prior to joining the group?
I am training to do my Hill and Moorland Leadership. I've done lots of walking and hiking in Scotland particularly with Thistle Camps working holidays plus hiking on my own/ with friends. Highlights with BGH has been having the opportunity to make new friends and probably the wild swimming adventures we had in Saltford in the Summer.
How has the group benefited you?
Bristol Girl Hikers has given me the confidence to make friends and start socialising after really struggling to make connections with people since moving here.
Do you have a favourite walk you've joined with BSGH so far?
The Dragon's Back in the Brecon Beacons
What advice can you offer someone looking to join their first BSGH walk?
It can seem intimidating but everyone has to start somewhere when it comes to hiking - and don't be afraid to message and ask questions as everyone is super friendly and welcoming!
